In most years, on the fourth Sunday in September, a selection of curated homes open their doors to tour visitors, who encounter history, inspiring restorations, and modern living in these architectural beauties.

The 2021 Legacy Home Tour will be held as an outdoor walking architectural tour due to the continuing COVID pandemic. This year, we will have a table to pick up materials and a few docents stationed along the route to help you with your questions. Watch this site for more information starting September 4.

In 2020, we presented The Bay Station Heritage Area Self-Guided Walking Tour with audio narration by Judith Lynch and historian Woody Minor. Sales of the app and booklet are over now, but if you have either of these already, you can continue to enjoy the tour all year.

The tour is hosted by the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society (AAPS) a nonprofit organization.

The funds raised by the Alameda Legacy Home Tour benefit the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society (AAPS).

Alameda is blessed with over 4000 buildings on the Historic Study list, including many architectural styles. Our organization helps homeowners and business people appreciate the historic nature of their properties and learn restoration techniques that will bring buildings back to their original splendor.

We have hosted Legacy Home Tours since the 1973. The annual tour of historic homes is the main fund raising effort supporting the programs of AAPS.

Alameda, with its beautiful architecture and tree-lined streets is truly one of the best places to live in the Bay Area. Visit, take the tour, and find out for yourself.

Donation tickets for the tour (downloadable app and PDF guidebook by September 25) are available online through Eventbrite. The glossy printed keepsake guidebook  is available as an add-on to your tour reservation for an additional fee. All tour tickets will have access to the downloadable content on September 25 with both the app and  PDF of the guidebook. You do not need to purchase the pre-printed booklet in order to do the tour. Only the tour smartphone/tablet app includes the Denise Brady’s narration, similar to the audio tours available at museums and historic sites.  The tour app can be downloaded multiple times with one ticket using the same email as the order, so one ticket per family group is fine.

We are looking for a few good people to serve on the day of the tour, September 26. We need help with selling donation tickets and merchandise and with the docent and volunteer party afterwards. To sign up, please click this button and fill out the easy volunteer form.

Would you like to be part of our year round committee and help us plan the 2021 tour? Please email if you would like to join us! Planning is ongoing through the COVID-19 virus though we won’t be meeting in person. We meet most months on the first Wednesday of the month. We are a fun group — join us! [email protected] .
